Legends of Learning is a website that provides curriculum-aligned, math and science games to engage students and assist teachers using hybrid learning, blended learning and distance learning models.

For Legends of Learning we designed three games (available through their website) that helped teach principals of chemical reactions and plate tectonics. These games have an emphasis on scientific systems as well as engaging narrative arcs and fun art.

Games

Dr. Pobblepot’s Hair-Brained Scheme:

  • You have found yourself in a hairy situation! Can you keep the mad scientist from making the world bald? You will have to escape his wily ways using chemical reactions to unlock a series of doors to save the world’s hair and turn off the evil laser. Your quest is guided, but not for the faint of heart. Will you save the world’s hair?
  • Designed for Middle Grades students, 30 minute playtime.
  • This game is designed to fit into curriculum surrounding MS-PS1.B-1b — Chemical Reactions: Evidence of a Reaction.

Dr. Popplebot’s Underwater Endeavor:

  • Dr. Popplebot has challenged you to prevent him from freezing all the oceans. To do this, you’ll need to disarm his freeze ray. He has locked all the doors leading to the device with chemical sensors. You’ll need to perform the correct balanced reactions in order to get through! Use your knowledge of the conservation of mass to open the doors and save our oceans!
  • Designed for Middle Grades students, 30 minute playtime.
  • This game is designed to fit into the standards for MS-PS1.B-2 — Conservation of Matter in Chemical Reactions.

Captain Bode’s Treasure Mapper:

  • Have you ever wanted to go on a scavenger hunt for hidden treasure? Here’s your chance in Captain Bode’s Treasure Mapper. You will use and learn about different types of maps, landforms, and plate boundaries on your way to hunt down Captain Bode. Are you up for the challenge?
  • Designed for Elementary School Students, 7 minute playtime.
  • This game is designed to fit into the standard for ES-ESS2.B-1 – Plate Tectonics and Large Scale Systems.
